# Kent G3 Commissioning — Sequence and Quick Setting

> Pre-power checklist, exact AC-first power-on and battery-first shutdown sequence, on-device HMI Quick Setting, and function tests before sign-off.

Commissioning the Kent G3 runs entirely on the **on-device HMI** — the screen and four keys (ESC, UP, DOWN, ENTER). This page is the step-by-step flow. Pass/fail evidence belongs in the G3 Commissioning Checklist.

<Warning>
  **For trained and authorized installers only.** The professional and advanced menus are password-locked. The password is partner-gated and is never shared outside authorized crews.

## Pre-Power Checklist

Before closing any breaker, confirm all five:

* [ ] Unit firmly mounted, accessible for service, ventilation space clear, nothing on top
* [ ] Inverter and all accessories correctly connected; cables routed safely and protected
* [ ] Warning labels affixed and durable
* [ ] Antenna fitted to its port
* [ ] Clip-on DC ammeter in the kit — the [0.5 A DC-switch rule](/g3/pv-wiring) applies to every DC-switch operation

## Power ON — The G3 Sequence

<Steps>
  <Step title="Measure DC voltages">
    Measure PV string voltage and battery DC voltage. Confirm polarity on both. Do not proceed if either is outside the platform envelope.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Measure grid AC voltage and frequency">
    Confirm grid voltage and frequency are within the local standard before closing any AC breaker.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Close the external grid AC breaker">
    The control board powers up. Wait for the HMI to initialize.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete the Quick Setting">
    Run the first-time Quick Setting flow (below) before enabling DC sources.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Close the PV DC switch, then the battery breaker">
    Verify string current is below 0.5 A before operating the DC switch — see [0.5 A DC-switch rule](/g3/pv-wiring). Close the PV DC switch first, then close the battery breaker. The system starts. Confirm the OPERATION LED moves from flashing to solid.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Power OFF is the exact reverse — battery breaker first, then PV DC switch, then grid AC breaker.** Wait for the device to fully power down before any work. If an alarm shows, power off and wait **5 minutes** before one restart attempt. If the alarm persists, escalate — do not cycle repeatedly.

## Quick Setting — In This Order

The HMI walks you through Quick Setting on first commissioning. Complete each step in sequence before moving to the next.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Set inverter time">
    Enter the current date and time. Wrong time corrupts TOU windows and monitoring logs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="CT / Meter setting">
    Select CT scheme or meter scheme. Set:

    * **Installation location:** Grid side (standard) / Load side / Grid + PV inverter
    * **CT direction:** Forward if installed correctly. Select Reversal only to correct a physically reversed CT — but fix the hardware, do not hide a wiring error in software.
    * **CT ratio:** Set exactly to the value on the **shipped CT's nameplate**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Grid code">
    Select only per the Kent parameter sheet for the site's DISCOM. Do not enter grid protection values manually.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Storage mode">
    Select Self-use, Selling first, or Off-grid. Modes are exclusive — one at a time. See [Settings Reference](/g3/settings-reference).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Battery setting">
    Select the battery brand entry. For the Kent Lithium Battery: **PYLON\_LV**. Set max charge and discharge current to the bank's capability. Confirm **live SOC is displayed on the screen** before closing the job. 📷
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>CT ratio confirmation is pending — read the ratio off the shipped CT's nameplate and set exactly that value. \[KNB-VAL-08]</Note>

<Note>Grid code selection is subject to DISCOM approval — use only the Kent-issued parameter sheet. \[KNB-VAL-01]</Note>

<Note>
  Selecting no battery model or the wrong model raises a battery-name failure alarm. "No Battery" and "No Meter" exist only to suppress alarms when that hardware is genuinely absent — do not use them to avoid setting up connected hardware.

  Default SOC values to know: overdischarge SOC 20%, force-charge SOC 10%, battery reserve 80% (range 5–95%). The ordering rule is: **Force-charge SOC \< Overdischarge SOC \< Recovery SOC**. Violating this order causes unexpected charge or discharge stops.
</Note>

## Function Tests Before Sign-Off

Complete all of the following and photograph the results:

* **Battery charge and discharge:** force charge then force discharge; confirm currents are within platform and pack limits. 📷
* **CT sanity:** grid on, PV off → all three phases showing import. Step a known load per phase and confirm each phase responds on its own CT. 📷
* **Per-phase heavy-load test** and record unbalanced-output state. See the unbalanced-output validation warning in [Settings Reference](/g3/settings-reference) — do not promise more than 100% of per-phase rating until confirmed.
* **Backup transition:** open the grid breaker with essential loads running — loads ride through the transfer with no interruption; confirm clean return when grid is restored.
* **Zero-export witness** on export-limited sites — see [Settings Reference](/g3/settings-reference).
* **Parallel sites:** master address = 1, slaves sequential; DIP pins ON at chain ends only; every unit has its own datalogger stick fitted.

## Common Mistakes

* DC switch operated without the 0.5 A clamp-meter check.
* CT ratio assumed at 3000 when the box kit shipped with the 2000-ratio CT — always read the nameplate.
* "Reversal" selected to hide a physically backwards CT instead of re-clamping it correctly.
* Carrying Kent M1 habits — menu password, DIP positions, TOU units set in watts — onto this platform.
