Questions

1. Which loads belong on the essential (backup) panel?
  • A. Lights, fans, router, TV, phone charging, alarm, CCTV — and appropriately sized loads for the platform’s backup rating
  • B. Everything in the house — the backup port is the main supply during an outage
  • C. Only LED lights — all other loads draw too much
  • D. Air conditioners, geysers, and lights

2. Air conditioners and geysers are:
  • A. Acceptable on backup if the customer needs them
  • B. Acceptable on backup only for the 6 kW Kent M1 model
  • C. Always grid-only — their draw or surge exceeds backup port ratings on all models
  • D. Acceptable on backup during the handover demo only

3. The Kent M1 grid-charge function is, by factory default:
  • A. Enabled for all battery types
  • B. Disabled — on an outage-first home, enable it deliberately at commissioning so the pack is full when a cut hits
  • C. Controlled automatically by the BMS based on grid tariff
  • D. Enabled only when SOC falls below 20 %

4. The three customer rules for both platforms are:
  • A. Restart the inverter when an alarm appears, call Kent if it persists, and check the battery every week
  • B. Look don’t touch settings; alarm = photo + call (not breaker flipping); know your two numbers — SOC and Kent service number
  • C. Clean the display monthly, restart monthly, and call Kent annually
  • D. Change the settings seasonally, photograph the display daily, and never call Kent unless it’s urgent

5. The Kent M1 5 kW model backup port maximum current is:
  • A. 15 A
  • B. 20 A
  • C. 25 A
  • D. 30 A

6. The DO/DON’T card must be:
  • A. Emailed to the customer after handover
  • B. Left physically on site and walked through verbally at handover — not handed over silently
  • C. Only provided to the customer if they ask for it
  • D. Kept by the installer as part of the job record

7. The emergency stop procedure the customer must know is:
  • A. Unplug the battery from the wall
  • B. Call Kent only — do not touch any switches
  • C. Switch off the labelled battery breaker and AC isolator if they are safe to reach, keep everyone away, and call Kent service
  • D. Press the power key on the display twice to enter safe mode

8. The handover form must be signed by:
  • A. The installer only — the customer signature is optional
  • B. The customer only — the installer signature is on the commissioning checklist
  • C. Both the installer and the customer, together, at the unit
  • D. Kent service, after reviewing the job record remotely

9. The battery percentage visible on the display represents:
  • A. The inverter’s internal temperature as a percentage of maximum
  • B. The state of charge (SOC) of the battery — the fuel gauge number
  • C. The percentage of today’s solar energy used
  • D. The remaining grid credit available

10. After a long outage that has run the battery to its protection floor, the customer should:
  • A. Leave the battery flat until the next Kent service visit
  • B. Switch the system off at the battery breaker to preserve the remaining charge
  • C. Let the system recharge promptly — never leave a pack flat for days, never store the system switched off with an empty battery
  • D. Run all loads immediately to calibrate the battery before recharging

Answer key

QAnswerWhy
1ALights, fans, router, TV, phone charging, alarm, CCTV — and one fridge where the platform’s motor-start capability covers it. Size the total to the model’s backup current rating.
2CACs and geysers are always grid-only. No Kent model, at any power rating, is sized or approved for AC or geyser backup.
3BThe Kent M1 grid-charge ships disabled. On outage-first homes, enable it at commissioning. A customer who doesn’t know this may find the battery partly empty at the first evening cut.
4BThe three rules: look don’t touch settings; alarm = photo + call (not breaker cycling); know two numbers — SOC on the display and the Kent service number on the card.
5CThe Kent M1 5 kW model backup maximum current is 25 A. The 3 kW is 15 A; the 6 kW is 30 A. Never quote 30 A for a 5 kW unit.
6BThe DO/DON’T card is left physically on site and walked through verbally. A card handed over in silence is a card that goes in a drawer and is never read.
7CSmoke, burning smell, or water ingress: switch the labelled battery breaker and AC isolator OFF if safe to reach, stay away from the unit, and call Kent service. Never touch cables or open the unit.
8CBoth the installer and the customer sign the handover form together, at the unit, on the day of handover. Both signatures are required — neither alone is sufficient.
9BThe battery percentage on the display is the state of charge — the fuel gauge. The customer’s daily glance starts here.
10CAfter a long outage, recharge the battery promptly. Leaving a lithium pack flat for days shortens its life. The system should be left running so it can recover on solar or grid as configured.
